For whatever reason I was feeling so much pressure about this first Book Club pick. I changed my mind maybe three times before landing on a book that felt right. Before diving in, I want to say that this pick has absolutely nothing to do with my “Gilmore Girls” obsession and everything to do with my admiration for Lauren Graham. Lorelai Gilmore and Sarah Braverman, (Lauren’s character on the show “Parenthood”) were both amazing on-screen woman who in my opinion could not have been played by anyone else.
“I must work harder to achieve my goal of not seeking approval from those whose approval I’m not even sure is important to me.”
Lauren Graham
For those of you who may not know ALL the things about Lauren Graham, her repertoire of talents also includes being a New York Times Bestselling author. In a novel The Washington Post called a “winning and entertaining read”, she tells the story of a young woman living in NYC whose one goal in life is to make it to Broadway. However, she suddenly realizes that 3 years have flashed before her eyes and she is still nowhere close to her dream coming true.
The book follows this young woman on her journey to changing her own luck and moving full force towards her goals. I felt like Lauren’s novel, Some Day, Someday, Maybe, would be the perfect book to kick us off given that we have just made the choice to move full force towards our dreams also.
“But life doesn’t often spell things out for you or give you what you want exactly when you want it, otherwise it wouldn’t be called life, it would be called a vending machine.”
Lauren Graham
This is a novel I have been wanting to read for a very long time and it is exciting to finally get a chance to check it off the list. My goal is to finish this book before Christmas so we have a chance to share our thoughts and decide what our first book of the New Year will be.
I have a feeling that this one is going to be even more awesome than I am expecting it to be. I can’t wait to hear what you think. Best wishes and happy reading!
